Butter may not do the body much good for health, but it sure does do our skin some good for our glow. Melanin glow that is. Stuck with mundane drugstore lotion options that just don’t seem to penetrate your skin and leave you with long-lasting moisture?
Try these six DIY Body Butters that you can make at home with all-natural and simple ingredients:
1 tbsp unrefined coconut oil (solid at room temperature)
2 tsp olive oil or castor oil
2 tsp beeswax
Optional: 20 drops of your choice of essential oil (i.e., chamomile, geranium, and orange)
Directions:
Slowly combine shea butter, coconut oil, olive or castor oil and beeswax in a glass mason jar or bowl. Add two cups of water to a small pot, then place your jar or bowl in it. Bring the water to a boil, allowing all ingredients to melt.
Remove from heat and add essential oils.
Pour into a lukewarm glass jar or tub.
Let cool for several hours or overnight.
Pro-Tip: Speed up the cooling process and put it in the fridge!
1/2 cup magnesium flakes + 3 tbsp of boiling water or 1/2 cup pre-made magnesium oil
1/4 cup coconut oil
2 tbsp emulsifying wax or beeswax
3 tbsp shea butter
Directions:
Pour 3 tbsp of boiling water into the magnesium flakes in a small container and stir until it dissolves. This will create a thick liquid. Set aside to cool.
Slowly combine coconut oil, shea butter, emulsifying wax or beeswax in a large glass mason jar.
Add 2 cups of water to a small pot, bringing to a boil. Place your jar in the pot and allow the ingredients to melt.
Remove from heat, and add the magnesium mixture.
Pour into a lukewarm glass jar or tub.
Let cool for several hours or overnight.
